Level of Award:
National NFQ Level 5 or European Framework of Qualifications (EQF) Level 4.
This module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to meet the full and holistic needs of older people in a variety of care contexts and to develop an awareness of the increasing needs of older people in the community today.
Learners will be required to complete a Pre-Assessment test in our centre to determine their academic level, unless they have QQI Level 4 Major Award or a previous Level 5 Component Award qualification.
Our training is delivered in a learner-centred, friendly and relaxed learning environment to ensure each learner is given every opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in order to succeed in their caring role. Sessions are delivered using a variety of methodologies involving class tuition, group discussions, role plays, skills demonstrations and simulated situations.
Section 1: The Ageing Process and its Impact on the Older Person
Section 2: Working and Communicating with the Older Person
Section 3: Caring for the Older Person with Specific Needs
Section 4: The Importance of Quality Assured Care Settings for the Older Person
Project 40%, Skills Demonstrations 60%.
Following successful completion, the learner will be awarded the QQI Level 5 Component Certificate in Care of the Older Person 5N2706.
Learners who successfully complete this module may use this level 5 component certificate as credit towards the following QQI Major Award: Level 5 Community Health Services 5M4468 or Healthcare Support 5M4339. This is an elective component which is highly sought after by healthcare employers.
