Level of Award:
National NFQ Level 5 or European Framework of Qualifications (EQF) Level 4.
Aim of the Programme Module:
This programme module aims to introduce learners to the area of sociology and social studies and to develop their understanding and awareness of social issues in their own lives and society in general.
Learners will be required to complete a Pre-Assessment test in our centre to determine their academic level, unless they have QQI Level 4 Major Award or a previous Level 5 Component Award.
Our training is delivered in a learner-centred, friendly and relaxed learning environment to ensure each learner is given every opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in order to succeed in their caring role. Sessions are delivered using a variety of methodologies involving class tuition, group discussions, role plays, skills demonstrations and simulated situations.
Section 1: Introduction to Sociological Concepts – Theory; Society; Roles and Functions.
Section 2: Research Methods – Research Strategies; Documentation and Reporting
Project 50%, Examination – Theory 50%.
Following successful completion, the learner will be awarded the QQI Level 5 Component Certificate in Social Studies 5N1370.
Learners who complete this module can progress towards the full QQI Level 5 Major Award in Community Health Services 5M4468 or Healthcare Support 5M4339.
