About Local Training Initiative

An LTI programme is a community based training programme of fixed duration supporting participants in gaining employment.

LTI’s are firmly rooted in the community and encourage learners to develop their existing skills and learn new skills in an environment that is tailored  to meet their individual needs.  This approach allows learners to develop valuable employment-related skills and knowledge while contributing to their community. The Local Training Initiative (LTI) programme is funded through SOLAS (formerly FAS).

Under the LTI we offer a QQI (formerly FETAC) Level 5 Major Award in Business Studies. All Minor Awards must be passed to achieve the full QQI Award.  The duration of the programme is nine months, Full Time. There is also a significant amount of homework and class work expected from participants. Some computer ability and a good level of written and spoken English are essential.

There is a training allowance available to those who qualify under SOLAS (formerly FAS) specification. Anyone interested in taking part on this course must contact their local SOLAS office or employment facilitator.

Those who complete this programme successfully can progress either to further education courses at Level 6 and 7, or directly to employment.
